StaffAlison Joubert, Ph.D
Alison Joubert has a background in zoology, biological resource management and the use of multi-criteria analysis and environmental and resource economics in environmental decision making. She has worked on a number of projects collaborating on the development of methods for Environmental Flow Requirements for rivers. Her particular contributions have been in terms of the design of methods to evaluate ecological, social and economic consequences of different scenarios (for the Pangani (Tanzania), Mekong (SE Asia) and a number of South African rivers). Other collaborative projects include the development of a fishing rights allocation process (South Africa), the design of transboundary networks of marine protected areas (Tanzania, Mozambique and South Africa), prioritisation of marine fish species for conservation and research (South Africa) and classification of estuaries (South Africa). She is the author or co-author of 11 refereed publications, two book chapters and numerous contract and research reports. After working for many years in the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Cape Town she joined Southern Waters in 2008.
